Arts engagement can provide a pathway for self-expression, obtaining new skills, and development of focus and teamwork.  Arts programs go well beyond the traditional arts & craft theme that carries negative connotations.  It includes dancing, singing, digital media, beat-making (Montgomery, Rogovin, & Persuad, 2013).  Arts is a realistic opportunity to self-express the creativity that lies within one’s self.  It is very difficult to measure the intrinsic value of a person’s art.  What can be measured and observed if the effects of that expression, how it develops and attributes to the success of other areas.  Being able to take what is within you, all the things that makes you unique, and being able to express them artistically, is a gift beyond measure.  It not only gives to others but it comes back to you.  It provides things such as:  self-confidence, acceptance, individuality, socialization, networking, physical and emotional safe place, and leadership roles.

The success of an afterschool arts program can be measured by the mix method.  Benchmarks can be compared by the before and after of being involved in the after-school program.  Quantitative research data can look at the differences in achievement data.  Qualitative research such as case studies and focus groups can provide insight to the environmental changes the afterschool program provides.  Just the change in afterschool environment alone can have a enormous impact on student outcomes.  Investment into a child’s future is priceless.  There is no doubt that discovering more about who you are, the creativity that lies within, and self -expression of that creativity will have a positive effect on all aspects of life.  We live in such a busy world and everything is so structured in most of our daily lives.  It is easy to lose ones self just trying to stay afloat.  It is important to remember to stop and smell the roses, not just glance or admire them when passing by.

Benchmarks are a point of reference used to compare how well or how poorly you are doing. You can use either internal benchmarks which are based off past performance or external which are based off comparing against similar practices retrieved from outside sources. According to Cocks (2012) internal benchmarks compare between groups or units within the same organization. External benchmarks compare against competitors within the same industry. In addition to internal and external benchmarks, Cocks identifies best practice benchmarks which are a comparison with the best that can be found world-wide regardless of the industry type.

Johnson (2006) argues that a lack of defined benchmarks creates unpredictability for professionals who attempt to solve problems and make decisions to become more effective because they have no consensus metrics to guide them. According to Bogan & English (1993) benchmarking can help identify what must change and it can provide a vivid picture of the endpoint after change. Johnson also argues that while benchmarks assist to reveal performance gaps without an explanation for why those gaps exist, the value of benchmarking is minimal.

Benchmarks are something people use every day without even thinking about it. The set standard or norm for society is a benchmark, laws and regulations are a benchmark, everything that people compare to when making everyday decisions could be a benchmark. Individual analysis identifies and compares to the norms, laws and against analysis of others to provide the information to make decisions on how to improve and achieve a higher performance level.

Math and science will always correlate. Math and science in art is relevant to students lives and their arts.  Music and math is a great perspective. Music can really help one do better in math? The brain has a correlation between math and music? Music targets one specific area of the brain to stimulate the use of spatial-temporal reasoning, which is useful in mathematical thinking (Serendip, 2008). Music has a lot of positive effects to one’s ability to do math. It’s said that children who are trained in music at a young age, tend improve in their math skills. Once again it helps to mathematical think. It’s a certain aspects of music that are affecting mathematics ability in a big way (Serendip, 2008). Most kids show their academics performances increase after a certain period of music education and training. One particular study published in the journal ‘Nature’ showed that when groups of first graders were given music instruction that emphasized sequential skill development and musical games involving rhythm and pitch, after six months, the students scored significantly better in math than students in groups that received traditional music instruction (Serendip, 2008). There are plenty of musician who are not good in math, so being able to listen to music and a musical instrument does not automatically guarantee that one can achieve in math. Music tends to enhance mathematical skills.

Strategic planning is a methodical method of visualizing an anticipated future, and transforming the idea into generally defined objectives or ideas and an order of stages to accomplish them (Dole, 2013).  Strategic planning can be utilized for many reasons.  Educational organizations can use strategic plans to explain the intention of the school and to create sensible objectives and ideas in line with that task in a clear timetable within the school’s ability for execution.  School use strategic plans to share those objectives and ideas to the school’s constituents. Schools utilize strategic plans to guarantee the most valuable usage is achieved of the school’s supplies by directing the supplies on the important significances.  Strategic planning offers a basis from which growth can be assessed and create a device for knowledgeable modification once required.  Educational organizations can benefit from strategic planning because it gives them the opportunity to take note of all people’s ideas in order to develop agreement about where the school is going.

Successful strategic preparation depends on a precise transfer of the institute’s visualization (Cheng, 2013). In order for there to be effective strategic planning their must be an action plan.  The action plan consists of a list of the achievement steps in sequential order. When these steps are used collectively, the school or organization can complete the envisioned plan. Distinctly created action phases are important. There should be a decision made about precisely what should be achieved. The action plan is a method used to ensure that the organization or the school’s vision is specific. The action plan defines the approach the team or teachers will utilize its plans to accomplish its goals.  An action plan can be considered as a list of action phases or modifications to be carried out in the community or school.

Objectives and achievement strategies typically emerge from all of the approaches.  In a planned corporate agenda for structural preparation and achievement, the plans, objectives, and action plans connect and encourage each other to produce the correct phases to achieve the task and vision and ensure their standards are achieved. Companies and schools must have policies, goals, and action plans to flow with the task within the association and/or school and involve the abilities of every personell and student if monitored by achievement. Another advantage of strategic planning is the normal action plan that comes from classifying the desired approach.  According to Sullivan & Richardson (2011), although strategic planning encompasses visualization, task and ideas, and additionally describes the essentials of the achievement plan to accomplish the outcomes desired (Sullivan & Richardson,2011)
