Paper, Order, or Assignment Requirements

Final Paper!
This class requires one visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There you will choose one work
of art from the selection available and visit it in person (You will be required to submit an image
of yourself next to the work of art as verification). You will develop a paper that employs formal
analysis to arrive at a fuller understanding of the historical and cultural significance of the work
of art. This paper will demonstrate your ability to articulate a clear and focused argument
supported by analysis and research. You need to use external sources, which are to be cited
using Turabian citations. Your paper should run between 1000-1800 words (3-5 pages).!
The final papers will be handed in as a hard copy on December 4th, and must be posted on

are encouraged to develop your paper with a public audience in mind (make it lively, clear, and
engaging!). To that end, you are also encouraged to integrate images, video, audio, and
interactive media that supports either your discussion of the work or offers further historical
contextualization. You are encouraged to design your own media, but can use images etc. from
the web as long as they are accurately credited!!

On October 30th, you will bring a hard copy of a first draft (at least 2 pages complete) to class.
Make sure there is some blank space on the back of your paper. You need not put your name
on it, as they will be redistributed randomly among the class. Over the course of the next week,
you will read the paper you have received and make comments on the content, structure, and
style of the draft. These will be returned the following week.
