Discuss the pros and cons of the death penalty and place your response within the parameters of whether the death penalty is ethical?

The death penalty is utilized by the government, in the taken of a human life since they have been convicted for a heinous crime they have committed. The death penalty is a controversial topic already and to tell whether it is ethical or not morally is tough. Those in favor of the death penalty will say that the death penalty is put into place to help preserve law and ordered, and deters crimes from happening again with the person that committed the crime. They also argue that it cost less to execute the convicted person than given them life in prison where they are able to still eat, take showers, talk with their family etc. A person that is pro death penalty will argue that an eye for an eye is to help console the victim family and ensure that the perpetrator will never be able to hurt anyone again. They also feel it’s a waste of taxpayers money to have the offender sit in jail and enjoy the luxury of living.
Opponents of the death penalty would argue that multiple people are wrongfully convicted. They also believe that the death penalty is unethical and immoral form of punishment for any crime. Those who are against the death penalty believe that no person should have the right to take another person life.
Its very hard for me to chose a side when I have never been in a situation where a loved one of mine have been murdered, I believe I would want the offender to be put to death. This would be my emotional impulse on the crime committed. But then I think about an eye for an eye, I have a close relative of mine that was raped by multiple guys, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable raping them back for what they done to her. Ethically the death penalty is wrong, but just because its wrong doesn’t mean I agree with the crimes these offenders commit. It may not show that the death penalty deter others from committing a crime but it will prevent the one on death row from committing a crime again.

4. Discuss the current situation in Guantanamo Bay. What are your personal opinions on the issue, i.e., what should the U.S do and specifically why?

The current situation at Guantanamo Bay is at United States military prison that was established to detain dangerous detainees to interrogate them for war crimes. Many of past and present prisoners have reported allegations that they have been abused and tortured for various reasons. The Geneva Convention treaties were not in affect

Being that they are detainees we as in the United States don’t have to give them rights since they are not on U.S. soil.
