110 – Reading questions for Chapter 6 (Rhetorical Analysis), pages 90-107, 114-118
1. In your own words, what is a rhetorical analysis?
2. Think about the authors’ examples of rhetorical analyses, and the purposes of critiquing written and visual arguments. What other types of texts—outside of the
context of academic writing—might qualify as rhetorical analysis? See if you can list four or five.
3. Look at the list that you made for #2, above, and consider the reasons those analyses exist. Now, answer this question: What are some of the purposes of
rhetorical analysis? And why is this sort of analysis important?
4. Look through the chapter at the many criteria that the authors suggest we use when performing a rhetorical evaluation. Consider those criteria as they relate to
the text you are considering writing about in your first paper. Now, make a list of 6 or 7 criteria with which you believe you can evaluate your text.
