The assignment is individual and act as an analyst�s study or possibly a study with more of an academic aim and orientation. Choose a topic in the field of financial risk management which highlights issues of the day on the development or consequences of particular risk management practices. The study should reveal the effective functioning of the futures, options or swaps markets in the hedging, investing or the arbitraging of risk. Submit your topic to me for prior approval.

Marks will be awarded for the quality in conception, analysis and appraisal of the situation or application of financial risk instruments or processes. The written report must be 2000 words minimum. This coursework counts 50% to your total module mark.

ASSIGNMENT BRIEF:
For your risk management topic, carry-out a literature review of the theory, operational practice, and any empirical studies. Illustrate with calculations. You might consider that you are working for an investment bank that is presenting a point of view to insiders or outsider to the bank. Your analysis should be realistic and believable by the various people affected by your analysis. This should include adequate quantification or diagrammatic illustration.

SOME GUIDELINES:
1) Raise the issues to be addressed early in the presentation. Explain the importance and purpose of the study. Provide a good �verbal abstract� to the study.
2) Establish the literature that you will be using. Obtain a sufficient literature to understand the functioning of the instruments you are describing and the problems arising in their use. Make sure you reference your work using the Harvard system, trying to use the latest or most relevant sources.
3) Outline your methodology of analysis. Describe any analysis you did and the results and findings obtained. Discuss the results of your enquiry and analysis.
4) Draw conclusions and recommendations to your study. Interpret any outcomes that could have wider implications either theoretically or practically.
