An analysis of teaching materials
An analysis of teaching materials
An analysis of an ESL coursebook (at Intermediate or Advanced Level, Student’s Book only!) to find out what presumed/underlying theories in second language learning and curriculum development are being followed by the course writer(s).
This report should include the following:
• an overview of how the materials are organised (e.g. through themes, grammar, structure, skill, function, lexis);
• justification of why the materials are organised that way, which may include:
o what general L2 learning theories are evident (e.g. behaviourist, constructivist …);
o which aspects of language performance are emphasised (e.g. linguistic, sociolinguistic, strategic or pragmatic competence), etc.
