In a three-page paper (750-1500 words), describe how the Land Grant Mission and the Morrill Act specifically influenced SDSU (and Brookings) in terms of physical, urban and architectural development.
This will require some speculation and research on your part.  Look at historical maps and photos, and use the readings and in-class discussions to this point as a way to describe specific examples.  Describe buildings, campus, the culture and people of the new College, the attitudes and opportunities for South Dakota, etc.
This paper should continue to establish particular ideas and topics that interest you regarding urbanism, cities, and Huron in particular.
On a separate page (or pages), compile an Annotated Bibliography citing at least six sources that you have reviewed in preparing this paper.  An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, essays and documents. Each citation is followed by a brief (approx. 150 words) annotation or description of the source. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of its relevance as it relates to a research topic.
Assembling this will require time Briggs ( Libraryhttp://www.sdstate.edu/library/index.cfm ) . Using the library catalog plus other resources such as the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals is expected.
Online sources may be referenced but only those that are “peer reviewed” or recognized authorities on the subject. These types of websites will always have such a description, lending credibility and legitimacy. A maximum of two (of the six required) citations may be drawn from exclusively online sources. When accessing a newspaper, journal or book through an online provider such as a library database, no reference to the online copy is necessary. Cite the material as if it was in print.
