Building on the practical exploration and formative work carried out through the Observational Study- Design Audit, Decision Trail, you will then apply theoretical models of design management and present your analysis in the form of an informed report. This will outline and summarise the results of the preparatory observational study and reference key findings, allowing you to reflect in more detail, review and comment on the theory behind the practice. During this stage further questions and hypotheses will be uncovered and should inspire you to be more curious and find deeper levels of understanding.

Your Observational Study- Design Audit, Decision Trail should be attached and referenced as an appendix to this report, and will contribute to the summative assessment mark.

The outcome for this module will play a pivotal role in the ongoing development of the Professional Portfolio, as well as help identify and focus students’ area of interest.

Length: between 2,000 – 2,500 words
(excluding references and appendices)

Components:
• this FORMAL report will identify, analyse, evaluate and critique your selected business’s use of design against the design management theory you have researched to date

• the report should be built upon your research, and show a clear understanding of how your selected firm makes use of design

• there should be clear and appropriate evidence of comprehensive research into the theory you will use to critique your selected business

• selected theory and references should be clearly acknowledged using Harvard referencing

Grading:
The Design Management Practice & Theory Report makes up 100% of your final mark.

Marks will be awarded for clear structure and quality of discussion.
Work will be graded according to your effort and ability to:
• present a considered and well-informed written report with relevant visuals and appendices (including the observational report), displaying evidence of thorough research and analytical discussion on the chosen business (PPS)
• reference comprehensive research (cited correctly in Harvard Referencing style) on reliable sources for information relevant to the essay – books, journals, e-journals, newspapers, magazine articles and websites (RP)
• demonstrate an in-depth recognition of differing perspectives and methods of enquiry arising from contemporary developments specifically in design management on a global scale (KU)
• apply theory to practice by engaging with and connecting research to the chosen business as well as discussions had about design management (CS)
• demonstrate ability to analyse and evaluate solutions through problem-solving techniques, showcasing a gen.uine interest in how the subject area can assist with the business and the project. (KTS)
