A PORTABLE ANTHOLOGY

A PORTABLE ANTHOLOGY
Project description
This essay is the final exam in the course and I need you to follow all the instructions below.

– Here are 3 instruction questions to be written in the essay. Question 1 and 2 use works from Literature: A Portable Anthology, Third Edition. Question 3 use work from Maus book I and II.

1- Choose two elements of fiction from” writing about stories in LITERATURE A PORTABLE ANTHOLOGY THIRD EDITION” (page1197) and explain how the element is applied in four works of short fiction. (for example, explain how point of view is used in Hemingway, Hawthorne, Faulkner, O’brien.) You will have to reference eight works of fiction to answer this. Use evidence from the stories.

2- Review the elements of poetry from “Writing about Poems,in same gook above”(1209) to analyze two poems. Pay close attention to line, diction, and sound. Use evidence from the poems.

3- Art Speigelman’s decision to use the comic book genre to write Maus is controversial. Some say it demeans the seriousness of the Holocaust experience while others say that Maus has elevated the comic form. Think about all the ways Maus can be read, as a comic book, a graphic novel, a memoir, an autobiography, an oral history an allegory. It can be read as fiction or non-fiction. How does your perception of its genre affect your reading of the work? Use examples from the text.

# The 8 works of fiction stories that I chose for question 1 are:
– EDGAR ALLAN POE, (The Cask of Amontillado.)

– EDDORA WELTY, (A Worn Path).
– JOHN UODIKE, (A&P).
– JAMAICA KINCAID, (Girl).
– SANDRA CISNEROS, (The House on Mango Street).
– SHERMAN ALEXIE, (the Long Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven).

#The 5 works of poems that I chose for question 2 are:
– ROBERT HERRICK. (To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time).
– JOHN MILTON. (When I consider how my light is spent).
– ANNE BRADTREET. (To my Dear and Loving Husband).
– William BLAKE. (The Lamb).
– ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWING. (How do I love three? Let me count the ways).
