The instructions will be written here: You need to choose to explain one out of the three questions written below and explain them, here they are:

Part1: Use evidence from the text to answer one of the following questions:

1. What is the relationship between the tourist and colonizer? Is the narrator’s disdain for the tourist justified? Why or why not?

2. Explain the significance of the title. In what ways, and in whose eyes is Antique a small place?
How does Antigua’s smallness, in all the ways it is small, affect the lives of the people who inhabit it?

3. Why do people like the narrator “make everything so personal” (37)? Specifically, why does she choose to tell the story of her country in such highly subjective way? How would the story be different if she told it in third person, as an “objective,” straightforward history?

PartII: Use research to elaborate on your analysis:

Specifically: Look Up Antigua. Do a google search. What kind of information you find? How does this information jive with the information Kincaid gives us in a Small Place? How does it provide context for the book, or change/deepen the books meeting? (clue when you do a google search all you see is hotel deals. You can connect that with the text on how most of the financial money that is used towards the city is used on tourism.
