Adaptation

For the final paper (3000 to 4000 words) you will perform an analysis of a film (or a group of related films) of your choice, using the theoretical/conceptual

frameworks to make an argument about a topic covered during class and in the readings. You need to show you have done the readings.  You are required to use, in-depth,

at least two assigned theoretical texts from our course.  Additionally, you must use six additional academic sources, including other research done on your chosen

texts/films and/or that also engages your conceptual framework to conduct an analysis. You may also refer to “non-academic” sources (e.g., trade magazines, newspaper

articles, popular books, non-academic essays, websites) but be sure to distinguish between academic and non-academic writing in your essay.

A one-page outline of the paper should be emailed to me before class during Week 9 but this outline is not marked.
Final paper is DUE week 13 in class and on SafeAssign. Your outline should give a clear indication of how you plan to proceed.  You will be provided a form to use to

construct your paper outline which will require you to include a working bibliography and thesis statement. Work will be evaluated on the basis of content, carefulness

and thoroughness of presentation according to the assignment. Detailed criteria reference sheets will be emailed to you. Work which demonstrates the principles of

academic writing and research discussed in class will be rewarded.  Papers must be submitted electronically through SafeAssign, as well as submitted as a hardcopy.

Your essay must:
•    Be double-spaced in a standard 12pt font
•    Include an exact word count on the first page
•    Include accurate citations using an academically recognized citation method MLA, Chicago, or Harvard (i.e. parenthetical references + a bibliography that

include full citations). Do not use APA. Please consult the Departmental Handbook for citation styles.
•    You can print your essay double-sided and there is no need for a separate cover page or any kind of folder/report cover.

DUE DATES
1.    Outline/Bibliography – Due during our individual meeting and emailed to me before class in the Ninth Week. See details on requirements for your outline at the

bottom of these guidelines.

•    Final Paper – Due: First hour of class in the Thirteenth Week.  A copy must also be submitted by SafeAssign.  Your paper will not be marked if I don’t receive

this digital copy.
