An evaluation of Henrik Ibsen's play Rosmersholm (comparative)

Hi,

So before I give you the main instructions I just want to note that this is really a comparative essay of the deaths in both Ibsen’s “Rosmersholm” and Miller’s “A View From the Bridge”. However, while the thesis needs to be formulated around that, I realize that could be difficult. Therefore, this could done as an evaluation of Ibsen’s “Rosmersholm”, That being the case if you just evaluate “Rosmersholm” be sure to make a claim around it and back it up. If you could compare it that would be great, if not just formulate it so a comparison could be fitted in easily. This may be difficult to do please message me with any questions. Discuss the choices made by Ibsen in creating the conclusion (the deaths/suicide) of “Rosmersholm”.

Questions to address:

1. Did the characters have to die?
2. How did the playwright prepare the audience for this death?
3.How well does the ending of the play fit thematically and artistically with the rest of the play?
4. Discuss whether the playwright handles the death(s) in this play in comparison to Millers play “A view from the Bridge”. (The thesis should be based around this)

NOTE:

1.You must write a thesis. (You will need to formulate a specific thesis, which should to announced somewhere in the introductory paragraph and you must organize your essay around the effort to demonstrate the validity of your thesis.)

2. Carefully organize the essay. Don’t just talk about one subject and then move to another. Be systematic in drawing the appropriate comparisons.

3. If you have to refer to the text DON”T USE FULL QUOTES FROM THE TEXT. If you must refer to the text, do so in a subordinate part of the sentence and use the main clause of the sentence to make the main point.

4. In making generalizations use discussion of detail to support them.
