Analog system design
1. Design a CE with partial by-pass transistor circuit at mid-point for the following
specifications: 2N3904 transistor, A’V = -20, RL = 10k:, REtotal = 1k:, VCC = 15V, Vin = 500
mVp-p, f = 1kHz, E = 150 (Use a 10uF capacitor for the Base and Collector capacitors. Use
100uF for the Emitter Bypass capacitor.)
2. Show all design steps. Check the maximum power across the transistor to make sure it is
under the specified value (check data sheet). Determine Ai and Rin.
3. Use MultiSim to verify your design. What is A’v and Ai using design values? To achieve A’v =
-20, what are the adjusted values of RE1 and RE2? Remember REtotal will not be modified, just
the ratio of RE1 to RE2.
4. Build the circuit in the lab. Again, troubleshoot the circuit i.e. perform the necessary
adjustments to reach the required gain of -20. Remember REtotal will not be modified, just
the ratio of RE1 to RE2.
5. Items you must turn in with your written lab report include (but not limited to):
x All calculations!!
x A MultiSim Circuit verifying your gain at calculated design elements (provide a
MultiSim oscilloscope waveform that shows the voltage out and voltage in).
Show your simulated gain on that waveform page!!
x A MultiSim circuit showing the adjustments required to achieve the proper gain
and the corresponding oscilloscope waveform and gain calculation.
x Screenshots showing gain (two)
x A table comparing theoretical to simulated to hard-wired results. You select the
pertinent parameters to compare.
