The research question is: What is teenager? How important does the concept of teenager mean in a society and how does it vary cross-culturally? The topic is divided into three main points: Rite of passage, the roles of teenagers in social groups, and teenagers as individuals. Rite of passage means the age that one becomes a teenager and is usually celebrated with some kinds of ritual events. The roles of teenagers in social groups refer to teenagers’ expectations from family, school, and other social groups. A teenager as individuals focuses on the change in one’s behavior as he or she gets older and the consequences of teenagers’ behaviors.
