Lab 7 (5%): Writing Instructions on How to Create Screen Shots

Apply your knowledge and skills of page design, illustration, and instructions to create a two-page reference card on how to create screen shots using an online application. This card will be laminated and distributed to first-year Office Administration students, who have never made screen shots before.

Your Audience:

First-year students in the Office Administration program who need to know how to use an application on PC to create screen captures to illustrate their communication.

Your Method:

Planning Your Grid Layout
1.    Use a grid layout to design your two-page layout.
2.    Use the drawing tools in Word to create a model of the modular grid that you develop for your two-page layout.

Using Your Grid Layout
1.    Use the grid to decide how many and which of the topics listed below you can and should include in your two-page reference card.

Note: If you’re unable to fit all nine topics and their accompanying illustrations on the two pages, decide which are the most useful or important functions that the card should document.

2.    Use the grid to design the actual layout for your screen capture reference card.

Adding Graphics to Your Prose:

1.    To illustrate the steps on your reference card, use your skills of page design and illustration to integrate prose and graphics as is reasonably practical.
2.    Adjust the content of your reference card as necessary to maintain its legibility and usability.
