Article commentary

NOTE: READ AND CHOOSE A TOPIC FROM THE ARTICLES THAT I WILL UPLOAD (ARTICLESPORTFOLIO.PDF)

You will then be expected to write a 1,200 word commentary on one of the topics you have found. You may relate this to other topics where relevant, but your main focus should be on your selected topic. You will be expected to make reference to the theoretical issues covered during the module, and these should be correctly given and referenced according to university guidelines.
Assessment criteria:

The Portfolio should:
1. show evidence of a wide variety of relevant articles from a range of newspapers and the broadcast media collected over a period of at least 4 weeks;
2. include brief comments/annotations as to why the article was included and where it came from.

The Commentary should:
3. focus on a single issue or story-line from the material in the portfolio;
4. demonstrate an understanding, supported by theory, of what constitutes human needs and/or social problems;
5. demonstrate an understanding, supported by theory, of how human needs and/or social problems are understood and constructed by the public, the media and the political process;
6. demonstrate the ability to present information in a clear, orderly and appropriate manner.
