Asia and the World

Question:

Much like in the real world, America and China are inextricably linked in the minds of the people that Amy Werbel met during her year in China. What about America do Chinese people admire and what do they dislike? How does America shape the way that Chinese people think about their own country?

Formal Guidelines:

The paper should be 5 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins. No title, cover page, or bibliography are necessary, and please do not restate the question at the top of the paper.

When citing from the book, which you should do, please do not use conventional footnotes. Instead, simply place the page number for the passage you are quoting in parentheses. The page number should come from the original pagination and not the page number in the course pack.

Example: Amy Werbel writes, “the attitudes towards censorship that I experienced in China were overwhelmingly bitter, angry, and cynical” (117).

Please note that the parentheses come after the quotation, but before the punctuation mark ending the sentence or the phrase (comma, semicolon, colon, period, etc.).
