Purpose:
The purpose of the oral presentation is to give students the opportunity to explore in more depth the concept of recovery and in particular the message of hope and fostering a culture of hope within mental health nursing and via leadership activities mental health services. You will be required to present a 10 minute face – face presentation based on your findings from an article / book excerpt / conference paper and or video which is written by a consumer of mental health services that talk of their recovery journey within mental health services, nationally or internationally.
One of the key messages from the literature talks about “the personal recovery” of individuals who have personal experience of mental illness (Slade, 2009). In understanding the uniqueness of the individual’s journey through mental health services, we would like you to critique the chosen excerpt, by exploring the key recovery principles of hope, self-identify and meaning for the individual and using this information to explore how you as a mental health nurse can promote a culture and language of hope and optimism (National Recovery Framework, 2012).
The presentations should be innovative, drawing from your own clinical experience and the theoretical knowledge on the concepts of recovery.
