Atheology Prove God’s Existence?
Project description
Topic #1: Must Atheology Prove God’s Nonexistence?
Consider: William Rowe does not give a proof for God’s nonexistence, although he nevertheless argues that the facts about evil in our world do provide good reason to
think that God does not exist.
Task: Explain why Rowe thinks his argument, although not a proof, still counts as evidence against theism; also explain the basic gist of his argument (i.e., his
premises, his conclusion, what he might mean by crucial terms, etc.).
Evaluative Task: Argue for or against Rowe’s view that he can provide some evidence against God’s existence without a proof. You may wish to use one or two good
analogies to help make your case.
Final Note: Material from Scott MacDonald’s “Natural Theology” (pp.26-31) is relevant to this topic. Also, do not mistake this topic as asking you to provide a general
evaluation of Rowe’s argument: you are being asked to answer a very specific question, and papers on this topic which don’t clearly attempt to support an answer to
that question will be marked down.
