Write an autobiographical essay, BECOMING ME. This paper is an application of psychological principles to your own life experiences. As we go through our everyday life

we are constantly experiencing psychological phenomena and this paper is your chance to show how what you have learned in this class has made you more knowledgeable

and aware. Papers should be typed, double spaced, 12 point fonts, margins no greater than 1.25 inches, 4 to 6 pages long (not including any photos or graphics which

you should feel free to include). Your task is to relate your life story or experiences to major ideas or theories from class.

The following questions may help you organize and decide what to include in your paper although you are certainly encouraged to introduce other important information:

o Which of your physical or emotional traits do you think have had the most influence on your personality?

o What characteristics of your family life do you think have had the most influence on your development?

o Were there any characteristics of your neighborhood that left an important impression on you?

o Did any teachers or school experiences influence you in a significant way, either positively or negatively?

o Have you been shaped at all by romantic relationships? How so? Have you been the target of discrimination or prejudice? How has this shaped your identity? How have

groups you belong to shaped your identity?

o Can you remember any other outstanding incidents or experiences that have made a lasting impression on you or influenced you in a significant way?

o Where would you characterize yourself today with regard to Maslow’s stages of motivation?

o What are current sources of stress in your life? How do you cope with stress?

o What was your transition to college like? How did you select Broome CC? What about your major or possible future career?

o As a result of being in this class and recalling the material for this autobiography, what new insights have you had about yourself?

Grading & References

When describing your own personal example of a psychological phenomenon, reference the page number (ie: Weiten, p. 75). You should include at least 10 references.
You do not need a works cited page unless you cite sources besides those used in class
Grades for this assignment will be based on style, organization, thoroughness, analytic specificity, and the extent to which you thoughtfully and deeply relate your

experiences to a variety of different psychological concepts and theories, and the number of referenced points you make.
Grammar and spelling count in the grade; this should be a polished paper. You will not be able to get an A on this paper if it has too many grammar or spelling

mistakes. You cannot get more than a D on this paper if you do not use references.
