Assessment criteria for word count
Most students work hard to keep within the word limits prescribed. It is therefore necessary to charge (/penalise) those who do not follow such limits, as follows:
• 1 mark will be deducted if the word count is not stated; more if the stated word count is significantly inaccurate.
• Marks will be deducted for excess words as follows:
o 1- 100 words – minus 1 mark
o a further mark will be deducted for every further 100 words or part of 100 words
• 1 mark will be deducted if the guidelines on font sizes and spacing etc on the previous page are not followed.
On the positive side, you may wish to use the above rules to your advantage. If you really feel that you need an extra 100 words, it will only cost you one mark.
