Using cases to learn about the practice of strategic management is a powerful way for you to accomplish five things:
* Increase your understanding of what managers should and should not do in guiding a business to success.
* Build your skills in sizing up company resource strengths and weaknesses and in conducting strategic analysis in a variety of industries and competitive situations.
* Get valuable practice in identifying strategic issues that need to be addressed, evaluating strategic alternatives, and formulating workable plans of action.
* Enhance your sense of business judgment, as opposed to uncritically accepting the authoritative crutch of the professor or “back-of-the-book” answers.
* Gaining in-depth exposure to different industries and companies, thereby acquiring something close to actual business experience

Steps for analyzing the case study

1- Samsung and Apple
2- Make a short introduction on both companies and their respective industry
3- Explain the rationale behind each company’s strategic decision using theory and concepts covers in class – Factors that lead to succeed or to fail (usually, there are many factors like lack of leadership, inadequate strategic decision, lack of resources, underestimation of competitiveness, strategic mindset, strategic planning …)
4- Use appropriate strategic tools to assess the relevancy of their strategies. Identify flaws and root causes of success or failure
5- Identify the major strategic issues both company faced
6- Critically appraise their strategic approach and decision-making – Build your argument based on strategic management concepts and journal articles – Use the literature review to defend your arguments
7-Make recommendations on how both companies should do in the future to sustain their business
