TOPIC 2: CAPITAL PUNISHMENT
Compare and contrast the hypothetical positions of Kant, Van den Haag, and Reiman on Gregg v.
Georgia.
Part 1: Introduction culminating in thesis position/argument (also see Part 5 below)
Part 2: Describe each theoretical position/argument about capital punishment (use textual evidence/quotations from the essays). This is the exposition.
Part 3: Describe how each theorist would (hypothetically) regard Gregg v. Georgia. Cite evidence from the theorists essays on the topic of capital punishment. This is the application.
Part 4: What are the strengths and weaknesses of each position as it relates to the case? This is the analysis.
Part 5: Of the three theorists, who has the best position and why? This is the argument.
[Note: This last question should also be the thesis or argument of your entire essay; you should state your response to this question in the thesis statement at the end of your introduction as well as argue for this position in Part 5]
