Brief description of assessment task Case Study
• The case study and question/s will be posted on the ‘Assessment’ – ‘Assignment 1’ – ‘ Case Studies’ link in the Assessment link (found in the blue toolbar to the left of this message).
• Words: 1,500 words, not counting tables or diagrams, appendices, and/or reference list. A minimum of 5 references is required for Assignment 1.
• An on-line tutorial in the Learning Lab provides advice about how to answer a case study. You will find it in the ‘Assessment’ – ‘Assignment 1’ – ‘ Case Studies’ (the Assessment link (found in the blue tool-bar to the left of this message).
• You need to demonstrate your skills in using the scholarly literature to develop your argument.
• Assistance will be provided during the weekly classes. Feedback on your case study plan will be provided in week 4. Refer to the Week 4 Assessment task in the ‘Assessment’ – ‘Assignment 1’ – ‘ Case Studies’ link.
Weight 30% (1500 words)
Course Learning Outcomes (CLO) assessed CLO 1. Explain foundational contributions to management theories to inform contemporary practices.
CLO4. Critically evaluate key management concepts within multidisciplinary contexts.
Use all the case study resources we have provided to complete the assignment.
Before you incorporate the questions at the end of the case study into your analysis, undertake the following process:
1. Case Analysis: Carefully read the case study. Analyse the case identifying the key issues and /or problems. Clearly indicate one issue or problem that is a priority to be managed. Explain why the issue or problem is considered a priority.
2. Linking theory and practice to the solution
Develop a solution to the issue or problem you have selected as a priority. Justify your solution with issue management theory, approaches, concepts or models from the first 6 weeks of lectures.
3. Recommendation
Recommend actions that you would take as a manager in response to the priority issue you identified. Using theories/models from your studies, explain why you recommend these actions.
It is based on the Marking Criteria:
1. Case Analysis: Analyses the case identifying the key issues and/or problems. Clearly indicates and explains one priority issue or problem that is to be managed.
2. Linking theory and practice to the solution: Develops a solution to the priority issue/problem. Justifies the solution with management theory, approaches, concepts and/or models.
3. Recommends and explains actions to address the priority issue with theories/models.
4. Referencing: Harvard Referencing style; in-text referencing and an alphabetised reference list. A minimum of 5 references is required for Assignment 1.
5. Professional level of presentation, case study format with sub-headings; Clear and accurate written style.
