This essay is to consist of 3 mini essays (each to include mini intro, body & conclusion) with approx 600 words to each. All three are a part of the same document I suggest you use subheadings for each of the 3 questions. I have made this easy for you in regard to references, they have been supplied for your use at the end of this message.

For many young people in Western Australia, Leavers (also known as Schoolies) Week has become a traditional occasion to mark the end of students’ senior high school years. Students tend to congregate in several well-known locations and describe the experience as ‘winding down’ after the stressful experience of completing their schooling years.
However, Leavers Week has also become known as a time that many young people are exposed to and may partake in drug use – both illicit and licit. There is divided opinion about whether alcohol usage at Leavers Week is ok or not ok, with some parents supplying young people with alcohol and some not. Concern has been expressed by many parties, including parents, school authorities, local authorities, local community members and some students, about the drug taking behaviour at these events, including a range of “party” drugs and prescription medications.
These same parties are concerned about how the consumption of alcohol and other drugs may be associated with behaviour such as unsafe sex, violence and traffic injuries.
The Shire of Busselton (in the south west of WA) is particularly concerned about the negative effects of this week on tourism to the local towns such as Dunsborough, Yallingup and Margaret River.

1. Undertake some research into Leavers Week using on-line resources and the research databases available through the Murdoch library. Choose two (2) substances which might be used at Leavers Week and describe the possible social and/or legal ramifications young people may experience when using these substances. Use scholarly and peer reviewed literature to support your answer. PLEASE CONSIDER ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO

2. There are three (3) policy approaches to drug and alcohol usage which have been discussed in this unit; harm reduction, zero tolerance and harm minimisation. Choose two (2) of these approaches. Use the case study provided to compare and contrast these two approaches, considering how the policy approach would affect perception of the issues raised in the case study. Use scholarly and peer reviewed literature to support your answer.

3. Please consider following theories:

a. Psychological theories of addiction
c. Psychosocial theories of addiction

Discuss how these theory might explain addiction that arises from young people engaging in events such as “Leavers Week”. Use scholarly and peer reviewed literature to support your answer.
