Project description
For this paper, you will do a close reading analysis either America, by Allen Ginsberg, Song of
Myself (1-8), or Eighteen Sixty-One by Walt Whitman. This paper should:
1. Be 1,000-1,250 words in length
2. Have an introductory and concluding paragraph (the nature of which we discussed in class
on 1/30)
3. Primarily use the poem you chose to support your reading (as opposed to using secondary
sources)
4. Engage with the elements of close reading poetry found in the reading by Blank & Kay
5. Also use either Times New Roman or Garamond 12 point font, 1-inch margins, and contain
a list of work cited and page numbers.
