ASSIGNMENT
Introduction and background notes (vocational context)
You work in a health and social care sector (i.e. care home) in London and you are now confident to train new employees in the care home where you work. It is important to ensure when working in any health and social care sector you understand the significance of the power of communication in health and social care. You should also have a thorough understanding of how various factors influence the communication process. Finally, you should be able to demonstrate an understanding the significance of information communication technology (ICT) in health and social care. Task 1. LO1: Be able to explore how communication skills are used in health and social care. Scenario
You are a care worker in a residential care home in London that provides service for users with multiple problems. For example, for older people with complex health needs, challenging behaviour and mental impairment. In this residential home communication is hampered by residents and staff who speak English as a second language. As a result inappropriate communication between staff and service users and between staff and staff often occurs.
Your line manager has asked you to produce an induction packet report for the new care workers in your organisation to explain the importance of having good communication skills in Health and Social Care. The care manager has given you some guidance to follow.
What you must do
1. Apply ONLY ONE (1) theory of communication and the relevance of the theory to communication in health and social care (examples of theory are: humanistic, behavioural, cognitive and psychodynamic).
2. Demonstrate how you used communication skills within your health and social care setting with the different service users

3. Review the methods of dealing with inappropriate interpersonal communication between individuals in health and social care (for example, inappropriate language barriers, misinterpretation).
4. Analyse the use of strategies that exist to support users of health and social care services with complex health needs (for example service users who are hearing impaired; visual impaired; dementia etc).
