Project brief
Project focus: Improving decision making through better data
Background to the business: Twinkl was co-founded in 2010 by Susie, Andrew and Jonathan Seaton and is the world’s leading online educational publishing house. Twinkl

provides primary education professionals worldwide with an exhaustive selection of digital teaching materials and currently has around 65 members of staff operating

from Sheffield, South Yorkshire twinkl’s growth is based on a subscription model whereby users can access a certain amount of material for free or choose upgrade to a

premium subscription currently priced  at either 29.95 pounds a year or 44.95 a year for individual subscriptions. Twinkle also offers subscription to school and

organisations.
Outline of the project: In 2015, we want to be clear about, and define, all the key pieces of data/statistics we need across the business and what modelling (future

predictions) that need to be made. Therefore, the project would involve researching and investigating what information we need in order to make as many data based

decisions as possible as this should relate to everything we’re doing on a daily basis.The two main areas of focus for us are growth as a company, whilst still

maintaining or even improving on the quality we provide. Our goal being to help as many teachers and people as possible with the relevant products that they value.
As a growing and fast moving company we need to enable ourselves to make decisions using hard data or modelling, and leave far fewer decisions to chance or conjecture,

even if in the past this has served us reasonably well. Although we use certain data across the business to track KPIs, we need a clear and focused agenda for using

hard data more thoroughly across our business and allowing it to have more input into our decision making process and management strategy.
Example Stats: One area that we are starting to look into is the resource types and the demand for each of our customer groups. What are our most profitable resources

and what ways can we measure this (e.g. quantity of downloads in our premium resources). Another area that we would like to collect data for is the user base. If we

can find out the relevant things about our customers and the trends amongst paying customers, we can direct our work towards enlarging that group and keeping the

customers within it.
