Comparative book review instructions:
The review will require you to read two books on the same subject written by different authors. You will then compare their theses and arguments, with an eye toward determining which of the two authors made
fairer use of documentation, the rules of evidence, the structure of historical argument, and the resources available.
You can choose whatever secondary sources on whatever historical topic that lies within the time frame of Europe in the 19th Century: 1815 to 1919 that you wish for the
comparative book review.
Compare and contrast two
secondary sources written by historians, rather than contemporaries: note their backgrounds as historians; their main topics upon which they have written, note their theses, and analyze the strengths of their arguments based upon their ability to
use primary and
secondary historical data. Which conclusion do you find most persuasive? How have these two historians influenced the writings on this topic?
