Paper details:
This assignment is to be done after the lectures and reading Chapters 8 and 9 in Janson’s Basic History of Art. The lectures and two chapters discuss the art of the world’s three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
Each student will visit a synagogue, church, OR mosque in their area. You may want to choose a sacred space you are not familiar with. This will allow you to experience a work of architecture, and view art you have never seen in person before. As well as gain a better appreciation for another religion.
GUIDELINES:

1. Identify the name of the sacred space: Title, street address, and city. If you can find out the date of completion, please include this information. Also, include names of the architect or any artists who contributed to the design if these are discovered.

2. Identify the religion affiliated with your sacred space.

3. Describe the exterior and interior using terminology and concepts learned in class.

4. Discuss how the sacred space visited is similar to / different from ONE example discussed in class. Identify the example discussed in class – Title, location, and date.

5. Images: Take no more than FOUR pictures and place ALL on ONE blank document. For proof of attendance you are to be in one of the pictures.

Your response is to be a 5-paragraph essay. Follow the MLA Format and use
proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
