Requirement for the assignment

The task is to record Audio and convert to a compressed format.

Compare the original file with the compressed files.

Make some observations and evidence of those observations.

● Record in WAV format
● Compress in mp3
● Compare using your ears – write comments
● Use Audacity to generate a frequency chart of
Before and after compression – screen grab
And comment about your observations

In Audacity once the audio file has been loaded
Select in the drop down menu
Analyze>Plot Spectrum
And the graphic of the plot will open.

Adobe Audition can also be used

● once the audio file has been loaded select in
The drop down menu

Window>Frequency Analysis

The plot window will open, from here you can
Copy the data to the clipboard and from there
Paste into Excel.
Click here to copy the data to the clipboard

Open Excel and past the data from the clipboard

Audacity Data
1. Once the file has been exported as a .txt file.
2. Open in a text editor e.g Notepad Windows and
TextEdit Mac select all and copy.
3. Open Excel and paste the data.
4. As your comparing two sets of data before and
after compression, repeat 1 to 3.
5. In Excel create a graph of the changes in amplitude against frequency again before and After compression.
