You are expected to research and present in groups of a maximum of six (6) students on the
following topic.
Imagine that you are the Board of Directors of a major transnational corporation
contemplating moving to an Emerging Market. Make a case for the transition and for
its being supported by your share holders as well the Government of the target
Market.

You are expected to have a maximum of 20 minutes group presentation on your analysis
and recommendations for entry into the selected economy.
Important Issues that you would need to address include:
1. Why might you consider moving from your current location? Analyse your Industry
and your major competitors. Make a list of what factors will influence your decision,
and recommend options to move.
2. What is the Business environment in the selected market? What advantages will you
have in moving to this market? Will there be state subsidies or aid in attracting and
retaining transnational firms of your industry. What strategies might the TNC use to
secure the best ‘deal’ (whether it stays in its current location or moves elsewhere?)
3. What is the nature of the competition? What issues are you concerned about here?
What, if anything, can you do??
4. What are the main challenges that you will face in the Emerging Market? How can
you mitigate risks? What will are the political implications of your move to the
market?
5. What will be your entry strategy? What scenarios might develop, in your opinion? Is
there anything more positive that could be done by governments or other agencies
here?
You will present your analysis with clarity and precision. The specified time limit must be
observed otherwise a penalty will be applied and negative marking will be applied to any
presentations exceeding 30 minutes.
