Answer the instructor’s prompt questions. Refer to the readings as well as the videos. For these questions, you are thinking about your ideal environment.

Questions:
What did you learn about creating a developmentally and culturally appropriate environment? How will you ensure that children development in independent movement, cognitive and social/emotional needs will be supported through the environment?

Why is it important to have comfortable adult spaces? How will you ensure that teachers are comfortable and families feel welcome? Describe an ideal adult space and how it would be used.

How do you feel about spending time outdoors? How might your personal feelings affect children’s access to the outdoors and/or the types of experiences children are offered?

What outdoor experiences do you currently offer infants and toddlers? What other kinds of experiences might you offer?

Post two questions related to the videos.

One question should be related to the making an environment accessible for a child with motor impairments.

The other question should be related to the involvement of families and their cultures in creating an indoor and outdoor environment.

Part 2: 1 full page

Pick an age group – infants under one year old, or toddlers between one and three.

Part one – Routines and schedules are part of the environment and serve the learning and social/emotional development of infant and toddlers.
Create a full day schedule and describe two or three routines for the program and your chosen age group. Be as detailed as possible. Include time for meals, one on one time, exploration and free play, small group time (toddlers) diapering, napping, transitions, etc.

Rather than drawing upon commercial, risk-adverse materials, consider materials that engage children’s sense of adventure, support their desire to be powerful and invite them to do real work that contributes to the community. Consider open-ended materials and loose parts, things from the natural world, and real tools. List as many things as you can that fit these categories, making a separate list for each category.
