Credit Scoring

Paper, Order, or Assignment Requirements

using one dataset which is a real data-set provided by one of the banks in a Middle African country and the topic need to be related to credit scoring.

Module Title: Research Design and Analysis Module Code: BMA0073
Module Learning Outcomes:
  • Have knowledge and understanding of different approaches to the design of research and data collection.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of different methods of data analysis.
  • Have an ability to utilise prior research studies in their discussion and analysis of empirical data.
  • Be able to evaluate and select appropriate methods of data collection, handling and analysis.
  • Be able to use an appropriate data analysis software package
  • Have improved their ability to critically evaluate and present key information in writing.

Assume that you have recently applied for a position as an assistant at an institute which is renowned for its active engagement in research in a wide variety of areas. As part of the appointment process, you are required to write a project report that involves an analysis of one of the financial datasets contained in the folder “assignment” on the Research Design and Analysis Unilearn webpage.

Coursework Requirement:

  1. You are required to: (i) select one of these datasets, (ii) design an empirical project topic that you may wish to undertake based on your chosen dataset and (iii) analyse your selected dataset using an appropriate empirical method.
  2. You are asked to prepare a 5000 word report that consists of the following sections:

  • Introduction that briefly motivates and describes the general background of your research topic. Additionally, this should clearly outline the objectives, questions and organisation of your intended research study…………………………………………………………(10 marks)

  • Literature review which describes the theoretical considerations underpinning your work. Then too, this section should summarize the main empirical findings of related studies that other researchers have carried out……………………………………….……..………………(30 marks)

  • Data description which provides a detailed explanation of the distribution and pattern underlying your chosen dataset. Much of the discussion here should be supported by graphs and a table of descriptive statistics…………………….…………………………. (10 marks)

  • Empirical methodology in which you discuss the major features of a regression model and estimation technique which you plan to use to analyse it in line with the research questions outlined in the introductory section. Your argument here should also include a justification of your choice of explanatory variables and their expected relationships (e.g. hypotheses) ………………………………..………………………..(12 marks)

  • Empirical results in which you present the parameter coefficients estimated from your regression model in the previous section. This section should also discuss how these predicted parameters relate to the research issues under investigation. Additionally, you should include information from hypothesis tests that show the statistical significance of the estimated coefficients………………….……(18 marks)
  • Diagnostic tests of the robustness and appropriateness of your regression model in terms of multicollinearity, autocorrelation and heteroskedasticity…………………………………………….……..….(5 marks)

  • Concluding remarks which briefly summarize the issues addressed in the study, with particular emphasis on its most important empirical findings with related policy implications………….…………….(10 marks)

  • Referencing of articles and books cited in the study in line with the format provided in the module outline…………….…………..(5 marks)

(Total 100 marks)

Formative Assessment

You can get feedback on the progress of your work by bringing the results of your data analysis with related notes to the module’s tutorial sessions. This will be used for discussion in class, and formative feedback will be provided by the tutors.

Please note: The module tutors will not read individual students’ work sent to them by email. All feedback comments will be provided in class, although students are welcomed to attend office hours to discuss their work with tutors.

Word Limit: 5,000 words (this is the upper limit and must not be exceeded)

Submission Date: Friday 19th December 2014 by 11.59pm on Turnitin
