What do you think is the most important responsibility of local government in the United States? Explain why you think the responsibility you identify is more important than other functions of local government.

The purpose of separation of powers is to ensure that one area of government does not gain too much power, and along with checks and balances, to ensure that issues of importance are carefully considered before they become policy.
Given the nation’s on-going problem of the federal budget deficit and the difficulty both the Executive and Legislative branches have had with reducing the deficit and maintaining a balanced budget, should the US add another branch or other type of governmental structure to oversees the country’s finances? Explain your response.
