Deanna Kuhn says that in everyday reasoning people typically look only for evidence supporting the view they bring with them to a situation. Similarly David Perkins says that people typically use a makes-sense stopping rule when looking for evidence for their position. How could these restricted forms of argument account for the observation that people are more likely to see the faults in others than in themselves?
