Mini Project
Instructor: Dr. Elias
1. Locate a business periodical or a business paper such as Fortune, Forbs, the Wall Street Journal,
etc. or a newspaper such as the Gulf Times. Find two examples of the use of a graph to display data.
For each graph,
a. Give the name, date, and page number of the periodical in which the graph appeared
(the date should NOT be earlier than September, 2014).
b. Describe the main points made by the graph.
c. Analyze the effectiveness of the graph
2. Collect data on any macroeconomic variable (GDP, inflation, unemployment, etc.) for Qatar (at
least for 10 years) and present a descriptive statistics. Also, use an appropriate graph to present your
data. What are your major observations?
3. Refer to page 281 of your text book. At the top of this page there is a box on “Applications in
Operations Management.” Answer the two questions (8.67 and 8.68) which follow the narrative.
Some Notes (Guidelines) on the Mini Project
1. Groups have been formed to work together on this mini project. Although there is a
baseline group point, students may receive individual credit for the project. This is based on
how well the ideas are addressed, your peers’ evaluation about your contribution to the
project, and your response to questions during a short meeting with the instructor.
2. While working on your mini project, please remember that one of the most important
things is to provide your own unique perspective using your own words?
3. Each team member must complete a team evaluation form. The individual assessments of
group members will be a factor in your individual grade on the project.
The final paper is due on Monday, December 29, 2014
