To support your program develop and submit the following three elements:
• a reading list or annotated bibliography (1 page),
• a handout (1 page)that lists specific ways the group in the scenario you choose to address can avoid social influence,

SELECT FROM THESE TWO SCENARIOS:

Scenario 1:
Due to recent changes in your workplace, employees are disgruntled. Many employees have lost their job as the organization has been downsized and those that remain are being asked to complete more work in less time than before. An organizational consultant, an “idea person,” has been hired to improve the economic situation, but he seems to have no clue as to how to deal with employee dissatisfaction. Increasingly, employees are blaming the company, seeing the company as the enemy. Employees actually spend more time at the water cooler and less on the job. Recently, petty theft and vandalism have increased. Employees seem to feel that the company is unjust, and because the company isn’t just, the employees don’t need to follow the rules. Projects are turned in late, or not done well. Individuals seem to feel they have the right to sabotage the company in any way they can, since the company is now “the enemy.”

Develop a program designed to stop the negative social influence that is growing inside this company.

Scenario 2:
You live in a community with a large Arab immigrant population, some Christian, some Muslim, and others are uncommitted religiously. Some of these persons are professionals, such as doctors and computer specialists; others run small businesses and stores in the community. Many of the youth, like all youth, are unemployed after high school; they congregate in groups, sometimes at a falafel stand near the local mosque. Many of the young Muslim women in the group wear the hijab, a moderate form of the Islamic head covering for women.
Recently, a man of Arab descent was attempting to board a bus at the local bus station and he was found to have a gun in his possession. When confronted, he began shooting, killing one security guard and wounding two other people at the bus station, including a young high school girl. Following this event, tensions at the high school and within the community rose. Slurs and attacks on Arab and Muslim youth in the community increased. In particular, a group of high school boys began to taunt Muslim girls as they walked home from school, in some instances confronting them and threatening them to either remove their head covering or get the same treatment that the “jihadi” gave their friend. The windows at the falafel stand were broken and graffiti was sprayed on the walls of the mosque. Local businesses have increasingly refused to hire young Arab males, Muslim or otherwise, for summer jobs.
