Scenario: You work at the Coastal Farm and Ranch (a retailer) headquarters In Albany. You are deveioping a
private label line which includes men’s graphic t-shirts. They will be merchandised with the Carhartt work/farm
wear apparel. You have been tasked with the following:
0 Determine the flber content of the t-shirts to be included in the iine (note that the vendor will produce tag/e55 t-shirts 5
for Coastal Farm and Ranch and will sew in Coastal’s private label tag).
0 Determine which ink to use to print the graphics.
0 Summarize and justify your decisions regarding t-shirt fiber content and ink selection in a report that will be read by
the general merchandising manager.
Target Markets: The line is intended to capture more than one market.
0 The first is “Jo”. la is 48 years old and works as a shift manager at a paper mill. He drives a Ford F250 and owns a
home on 20 acres. He supplements his $54,000 income by raising cattle which he sells at auctions. His wife, who is a
stay at home mom of three teen-age children, grows, dries, and sells lavender to supplement their income, as well. 1
Much of Jo’s spare time is spent maintaining his pasture, barn, and property. Jo aspires to one day retire from the
paper mlll and devote more time to his farm/ranch.
0 The second is Jo’s son, “Jake”. Jake just graduated from high school. Right now he lives at home with his parents, but
hopes to move into a house with some friends soon. He works as an apprentice for an electrician and makes $12 an
hour. He works about 50 hours a week, but when away from work he leads an active outdoor life riding ATVs and
goes fishing with his friends. On the weekends, he and his friends haVe 8805 at each other’s houses, drink beer, and
watch racing on television. He wears casual clothing both on and off of work.

This is not a group project. This is an individual project. Though your group worked together to collect data, you must
complete all parts of this report completely on your own.
With the above scenario and target markets in mind, you will write a report for your boss that summarizes and justifies
your decision regarding the specific t-shirt and ink selection. The language you use should be professional. Assume that

you and your boss have similar ievels of textile knowledge. The more technical aspects (results) of the tests performed
in lab will be dispiayed in an Excei table at the end of this report.
