Federal Rules of Evidence (FRE) prohibit the introduction of character evidence in regards to a defendant’s possible guilt. This prohibition also includes not allowing the introduction of evidence of past criminal activity. In 1995, the FRE were amended and exceptions to the general rule were created (FRE 413, 414, and 415). Discuss those exceptions and why the court has seen fit to create them.
