Hispanic gangs grew drastically during the 1950 in Los Angeles, California. This of course caused a domino effect. The rapid growth of gangs forced families to relocate in an attempt to avoid gang violence, but some of these children brought that gang mentally to their new residence and eventually created new gangs.
During the 1950s, many gang members were sent to prison and again new gangs were created. There, the first Hispanic prison gang was formed called La Eme.
La Eme was a Mexican gang formed in prison for protection against other inmates and against correctional facility staff members.
