Disproportionate Minority Confinement (DMC) is the inequality in the numbers

of youth from minority populations that face the justice system for juveniles compared to

their representation in the overall population. The problem of disproportionate minority

contact has been a problem for the United States juvenile system even with many years of

government attention into the problem. In majority of states in the United States, youth

from minority populations are overrepresented in the justice system either in confinement

or in facing criminal charges with the justice system (Michael, 1).

The old premise that have led to the big numbers of many minority youth are

based on the racial stereotype of associating minority youth with a higher likelihood of

committing crimes  and offending  more than their corresponding youth from majority

white populations. This premise leads to minority youth experiencing more

disproportionate contact with the justice system than the youth from corresponding white
