Why were the drafters of the Constitution so concerned with the issue of separation of powers ?

Why were the drafters of the Constitution so concerned with the issue of separation of powers ? How has the role of each branch in maintaining that separation evolved, and is the separation still sufficient to guarantee that no one branch usurps the others?

2. Why did people fear the establishment of a strong federal government in the late 18th Century? Why do some fear it today?

3. Some see the movement toward globalization as a threat to American sovereignty. How do you see it?
