Order Description

This is a part of my Econ class final paper, we work in groups so each of us is responsable for a part of the whole paper. We have to put our work together when we finished our own parts. I’ll upload the requirement of the whole paper, but you just need to write about question #(8), which is” You will also gather other information about the
state (Montana), including information on its population, land area (size), etc.
You will also want to learn history of your state and its economy since World War II.You may want to think about things like cultural and natural amenities, when the state was settled.( The state we picked is Montana)”.

Regional Paper
To bring together the concepts of the class you will work together in groups and produce a final paper.
Have some fun! This is what this course is all about!
Here’s how it will work:
1)
You will
work in
assigned
teams of 3
to 4
peopl

.
Your team will be assigned a number, such as Team
1, Team 2, etc..
2)

ou will
choose one
U.S. state
to examine.
You may not choose California, Texas, Alaska, or Hawaii;
the District of Columbia is not a state.
Only one group may choose each
state
. Whoever picks it first
gets it. Send me an email with your choice.
3)
You must
get your
choice of
state approved b
y no later than
Wednesday, November 19
th
.
(Note: I will
be out of town from November 11
th
until November 17
th
).

on completing
this on time. It is also in your interest t
o talk to me if you have questions about your ch

You will use the Location Quotient tool on the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) website to generate
Location Quotients for your
state (in 2
013).

You will also use a simple national input

output table derived from data from the Bureau of Economic
Analysis (BEA) and
adjust it using your Location Quotients.
I will provide the base table that you can
adjust. We will walk through
an example of
this in class together.

ou will use the final multiplier table
(discussed in part 5)
to generate data on what would happen if
there was an increase in demand for an output in one of the exporting (LQ>1) industries in
your
state
.
Choose an industry and see what happens.
Use your research about your state to figure out an industry
that makes sense!
7)
You are required to include a t
able with the
results from your multiplier analysis
(for output and
income)
in your paper. Make sure you label this as Table 1.
An example will be provided.
You might
find it useful to include other tables, figures or maps. That is fine. But, they must fit
within the page
limit.
8)
You will also gather
other information about the
state
, including information on its population, land

I suggest you revisit the “sticky states” model to learn more about the migration patterns to and from
your state in recent years.

You will produce a
paper that wil
l be no more than 10 pages long (double spaced using a 12

point
font).
Assume your paper will be read by federal public policy makers who are trying to learn more
about that state and about whether or not to invest in a project that would stimulate the exp
ort demand
increase you modeled.
11)
You will hav
e some time to work on this in class
, although you should expect to work on this outside of
class as well. Hopefully, you can get to a point where it is easy to split up the work.

Technical Details:

The
paper is due at 2 p.m. (beginning of class) on Monday, December 8, 2014. You must submit
both a hard (printed) copy and an electronic version of your written paper. The electronic
version must be uploaded by one person from each team to the “final paper
” dropbox on
Beachboard prior to coming to class.
When uploading to Beachboard, you must use the team name
(so, Team 1 will have “Team 1”) in the name of the file
.

The paper should be no more than
10 typed, double

spaced pages, using a 12

point font
. This
includes the
required table, a cover page,
any other figures, and your bibliography. In other words, be
thorough but concise!

Your cover page should include a title describing your project, your team name (
so team 1 will list
“Team 1”
) and
a li
st of team members
. This page counts toward the 10

page limit.

The paper should include a meaningful
introduction
that sets up the structure of the paper and a
conclusion
that pulls together the paper and summarizes the key findings.

Your paper must
also have a body that includes a thorough discussion of
your chosen
state
, the findings
from your research and analysis,
and how these findings related to what you expected given the models
we learned in class.

You must have at least
the table discussed above.
Other charts, tables, maps or figures are optional.

Any maps, graphs, charts, tables, etc. should be included at the end of the text. Each one must have a
title and a number. (e.g. Table 1

) They should also be
referred to sequentially in the text. Be sure to include keys for maps or charts that require them.

Please number your pages.

You must include citations and, at the end, a list of references. You must cite your sources
for
everything

including maps and tables. Be thorough and consistent when citing sources. I do not care
what citation method you use, but I do care that you use your preferred method correctly.
If you have
any questions about citations, please ask!
Assessment
Each team will be evaluated on t
he
quality of your written summary, including the inclusion of the required
elements.
Note: This means you will be graded on grammar and writing. Make sure you give your paper a
thorough proofreading before you submit.
In general, all team members will receive the same
grade for the final project
. However, I will
ask you to
evaluate t
he effort of your fellow
team members at the end of the project, so I suggest you not think you
can get away as a free rider!
