General stuff
You need to read the guidelines on Moodle! Especially notes about
plagiarism and handing your essay in.
The due date is 14th of January 2014.
Your essay has to have a clear research question. One sentence with a
question mark at the end. This will help focus what you want to talk
about.
Also consider the following hints:
Got to be about Economics.
Analytical rather than descriptive.
Interesting, well defined question.
Answered with Economic theory.
Well researched (i.e. not Wikipedia, Investopedia, etc.).

Handing in your essay
Before you hand in your essay to the Department Office you must
first submit it to Turnitin via Moodle. Turnitin is a plagiarism
detection service. Instructions on how to submit your essay will
appear on Moodle.
When you submit your essay on Turnitin you will receive a digital
receipt to your email. You should print out the first page only of this
receipt and attach it to the hard copy of your essay before handing it
in the Department Office.
The copy you submit to Turnitin must be identical (barring diagrams
where appropriate) to the hard copy submitted.
Hand in your essay to the Department Office (H209) by 12 noon on
the date laid out in the current Student Handbook.

Plagiarism
Plagiarism is a serious academic offence which can lead to failure of
the course or even the loss of your degree.
Examples of plagiarism are not appropriately referencing sources and
failure to appropriately acknowledge the work of others in your essays.
To help you familiarize yourself with rules regarding plagiarism and
referencing, you are required to work through the document
Guidelines for writing your essays.
You should complete the online tutorial on plagiarism which is part of
EC1101.
Further information on this is available via a link at the course
Moodle page. The Student Handbook provides additional information
on plagiarism and lists a number of sources on academic writing.
Academic writing courses are available from the Language Centre (see

Economic Journal (EJ)
The NBER (www.nber.org) is a great place to find working papers.
JSTOR is a great online academic library where you could search for
key words, authors, journals, etc.
You can access these free through the library system. NBER you can
access directly on campus.
