Assignment Overview:
The students are expected to create a portfolio including various human resources topics, leadership themes and applied human resources issues. The portfolio consists mainly of activities, case study work and presentations. At the end of the semester the students are required to write a case study regarding one human resources topic area.
Overall aim:?To create and develop a portfolio to explore and examine different Human Resources functions and important topics in the field of study.
Organisation and methodology:
The students are required to include relevant material in the portfolio (when assigned individually or group):
1. All relevant case study work and activities
2. Assigned presentation in class (assigned in pairs spread over the semester)
3. Complete a case study with regards to “Emotional Intelligence at the workplace”. The case ?study shall include an overview of the theme, overview of the company, problem statement, challenges, opportunities, etc.
Word count:
1. Case studies: around 150 words
2. Case Study: 1,000 words
Resources available:?Human Resources Management textbooks, Organizational Behaviour textbooks, academic journals such as Cornell Hospitality Quarterly. Consult internet sources such as emeraldinsight.com for an overview of articles relating to all aspects of HR.
Assessment tasks & weighting:
The assignment will be assessed as follows:
. (a) Overall structure and organisation of the assignment including English skill assessment – 10%
. (b) Completeness and discussions of assigned case study work and activities – 30%
. (c) Completeness and outline of presentation – 30%
. (d) Theoretical overview, discussion, analysis and recommendations (case study) – 30%
