Task 1
Australia

In this first task you will develop a “rich picture” presentation on a developed or developing
country of your choice (for example this could be your home country).

In the presentation you will analyse the role of the state, the current political context and how
this may impact upon Employee Relations.

Areas of consideration could be:
• Discussion on the current political/economic context
• How your country fits within the perspectives drawn from Fox (1966)
• National industrial relations systems
• Trans-national challenges
• How HRM is practised
• How does this relate to labour law and the concept of the Master and Servant

The presentation should be:
• Maximum 10 minutes plus 5 mins for questions
• Should contain at minimum of three slides however a rich picture should be contained within 1 slide.
• These slides should include notes pages offering detail to support your debate (we will consider these notes as part of our marking)
• Should contain at least 1000 words

Task 2
Australia vs Cambodia
Building upon and extending the research completed in task 1 you must now select a contrasting country and construct a research focused assignment which compares and evaluates the employee relations systems within both countries you have chosen.

You need to ensure you have chosen both a developed and a least developed country to contrast and highlight the challenges within HRM and ER
For example this could be comparing France with either Zimbabwe or Pakistan

We would like you to:
• Evaluate and compare the employee relations systems and critically analyse the implications for organisational practice.
• Compare and critically evaluate the differing systems of control and regulation within the countries of your choice.
• Examine the development of labour law and its enforcement in the two differing global contexts
• Compare national perspectives of Master and Servant to highlight the guiding principles upon which employee relations is based within these countries.
• A definition to help you distinguish between developed and least developed countries is taken from the United Nations
