Engineering Practice; Assignment 3, Part 1: EWB Challenge Project Team Report – Section 5.

SEB121 Engineering Practice; Assignment 3, Part 1: EWB Challenge Project Team Report – Section 5.

(10 marks)
What is this assignment about?
The major objectives of this assignment are:
1.Project teams collaboratively prepare and produce a comprehensive written report documenting theirproject design for the 2015 EWB Challenge.
2.The report produced by all teams is not only suitable to meet the assessment needs of SEB121Engineering Practice but also suitable for submission to the 2015 EWB Challenge competition.
This assignment part is worth 10 marks (10%) of the total 100 marks (100%) possible for this unit. It is a team-based assignment for all students and marks will be awarded based entirely on the team’s submitted report. Each member of your team will receive the same mark for this assignment.
Everyone must work in the project teams that you joined or were assigned to early in the trimester. Be clear on this – you must work as part of a team for this assignment and you cannot undertake this assignment individually by yourself. If there is a problem with your team then contact the unit chair to get it resolved as soon as possible. The project report (and corresponding presentations) is to be from the combined efforts within teams and not solely from individuals.
What you are required to do
1.Your team needs to prepare a written report for the EWB design project using the MS Word document(SEB121 EWB Report.doc) provided on MIBT Portal.
2.All teams must use the provided MS Word document to prepare and submit their report. The documentprovided was originally derived from an Engineers without Borders Australia document (which may still beavailable on their website) but it has been significantly modified and enhanced to suit both the needs ofSEB121 Engineering Practice and the needs of the EWB Challenge competition.
3.This assignment part requires teams undertaking the EWB Challenge Design Project to have completed Phase 1 (Needs Definition) of the design process for their chosen Reignite EWB Challenge design area and to submit their finalised Needs Definition embedded within their project report. This assignment part will be worth 10 marks (10%) and all teams must submit their project report by 17:30pm (local Geelong time) on Monday 13 April (in Week 6) via the online assignment dropbox provided on MIBT Portal.
4.The report document (SEB121 EWB Report.doc) provided includes instructions and advice. Make sure todelete/remove the instructions, guidance, and advice, and any unused sections progressively as your teamcompiles your report during the trimester. The final version of your report, to be submitted as Assignment 3Part 2 should have all unused sections and all instructions, guidance, and advice removed from it.
5.Information, guidance, and examples of team reports submitted to the EWB Challenge in past years areavailable online at EWB Australia’s website at:
http://www.ewbchallenge.org/reignite
http://www.ewb.org.au/explore/initiatives/ewbchallenge/ptl/ptl-submission-requirements
6.Although we’ll be marking your Needs Definition section as Assignment 3 Part 1 we’ll also include it again in the marking for Assignment 3 Part 2 as part of the entire final report. Why? So that your team has a chance to revise/refine your Needs Definition for the final report based on feedback given in Assignment 3 Part 1 when you submit your report . Also when we mark Assignment 3 Part 2 the significance of the Needs Definition is diluted within the final report.
SEB121 Engineering Practice
How is this assignment part marked?
1.For Assignment 3 Part 1 we’ll only be marking Section 5 (Needs Definition) of your submitted report. Your team is welcome to have draft versions of other sections in the report (and this is recommended) but only Section 5 (Needs Definition) will be marked as Assignment 3 Part 1. See the attached copy of the report template highlighting the section that will be marked for Part 1 (out of 10 marks). A simple marking scale of 0 to 10 will be used:
?0 = not provided or unacceptable
?2 = poorly written
?4 = average
?6 = well written
?8 = very well written
?10 = excellent & extremely well written
2.For Assignment 3 Part 2, we’ll be marking the entire report (all sections) of your final submitted projectreport (out of 10 marks). For Assignment 3 Part 2 we will use the 2015 EWB Challenge Submission ReviewCriteria pro-rated to equal a maximum of 10 marks. The review criteria are available online from EWBAustralia and a copy is also attached.
Anything else?
1.Use the opportunity to have your draft report reviewed in Week 6 to your team’s (competitive) advantage. Although we will be marking the Needs Definition section we will also look over the rest of your report with an aim to give guidance and feedback. So it makes sense if possible to make a start on other sections of the report for submission with your Needs Definition for review.
2.At first glance the report’s requirements, as shown in the provided report document, may lookoverwhelming to the individual. But remember that it is being assigned to your entire project team not to youindividually so for the median-sized team of 5 persons this requirement should be reasonable.
3.Section 5 of your report is due in Week 6 as Assignment 3 Part 1. Don’t forget that Assignment 3 Part 2 final report is due in Week 11 (Monday 18 May 2015 before 5:30pm )
The important dates to remember
1.Monday 13 April 2015
?Assignment 3 Part 1 (Needs Definition) is to be submitted by 17:30pm (local Geelong time) on Monday 13 April 2015 (Week 6) via the online dropbox provided on MIBT Portal.
2.Monday 18 May 2015
?Assignment 3 Part 2 (Final Report) is to be submitted by 17:30pm (local Geelong time) on Monday18 May 2015 (Week 11) via the online dropbox provided on MIBT Portal.
And finally, the fine print
1.Remember that all students are required to comply with MIBT’s regulations and policies on academichonesty and misconduct. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have read and understood thesepolicies as described in the Academic Honesty and Misconduct section in the Unit Guide.
2.You are expected to fully comply with this MIBT’s regulations and policies on academic honesty andmisconduct at all times while studying for, and undertaking assessment tasks, for this unit. If you have anyquestions or queries about your obligations as a student with regard to academic honesty or misconductthen consult directly with your unit chair or student advisor.

Genuine Targets Specification for the Design
Benchmark a set of similar existing products/services/processes according to the Operating Conditions Specification’s list of attributes. Develop a set of ideal (target) and acceptable values for all attributes in the Operating Conditions Specification. The set of target values that your design needs to cope with (operating environment) and needs to deliver (performance requirements).

Make sure to focus on the local community (or communities) which are the target market for your designed solution. This may not be easy, especially for the EWB Challenge local communities, where there is often a lack of easily available information and data.
