Trace the development of Telemachos’ interaction with Penelope in these scenes and elsewhere in the Odyssey. What do these scenes inform us about Homeric society? Compare scenes between Telemachos and Penelope with scenes involving Odysseus and Arête ( the queen of the Phaiakians) how does Odyseeus’ interaction with Arête make gender roles in Homeric society very complex?
