***the Real World example could be one that relates directly to you or someone that you know. Or, it can be a situation involving a created individual that you make-up using your imagination. Either way, the real-world example should contain MORE rather than LESS detail (so if you are unsure if you should include certain details, put them in.) Also, a real-world example should illustrate the important ideas that apply to it.

1. (Chapter 4)

Discuss what is meant by Multiple Intelligences. In your discussion include: 1) Gardner’s assumptions about Intelligence and the “Core Components” of each of “his eight” from Table 4.1); 2) Sternberg’s assumptions about Intelligence and the definitions of each of “his three”- Analytical, Creative, Practical-and (using your own thought process) relate each back to metacomponents, performance components, and knowledge-acquisition components ; 3) (using your own thought process) a description of how the “Multiple Intelligences” perspective differs from the “g” (“General Ability”) perspective. In doing

so, explain the relationship between one’s “g” level and one’s IQ score (include the generally accepted idea that your “g” level is related to your IQ score – see p. 125 under GUIDELINES, the first # 3 that begins “Be a aware that…”; 4) a real-world example to illustrate the intellectual functioning of an individual as reflective of a certain level of “General Ability” (thus he or she mostly likely has a relatively high, an average, or relatively low, IQ) as well as certain degrees of “Multiple Intelligence” (use any five from Gardner’s and Sternberg’s theories (for instance, three of Gardner’s and two of Sternberg’s).

2. (Chapter 15)

Discuss what is meant by Formative Assessment (A) and Summative Assessment (B). In your discussion include: 1) the meaning of Objective Testing (C) versus Essay Testing (D) as two traditional means of assessment; 2) the meaning of Authentic Assessment (E-A),

as well as a specific kind referred to as Performance Assessment (E-B); 3) a real-world example to illustrate how you would assess the level of knowledge of students on one particular topic using (A) (B) (C) (D) and (E-A, E-B) methods. (If you would not apply a particular assessment method towards teaching this topic, explain why).

3. (Chapters 7, 12)

Discuss what is meant by Motivation. In your discussion include: 1) what is meant by Intrinsic Motivation and Extrinsic Motivation, and give a real-world example of each;

2) the difference between a Reward and an Incentive (include the terms Operant Conditioning, Antecedent, Consequence, and Positive Reinforcement in your comparison); 3) how Intrinsic Motivation and Extrinsic Motivation relate to Locus-of-Causality (include the terms “Internal locus” and “External locus”).
